Why Your Vote Is Bleeding Out: The Shocking Truth About Democracy's Collapse
In this video, we dive into a groundbreaking academic work by Gerry Stoker, 'The Future of Citizenship,' to expose a brutal reality: the democratic contract is unraveling before our eyes. We dissect how global voting rates have plummeted from 68% to 64% since the 1990s, why political parties are hollow shells, and how the system is designed to make you feel powerless. From the broken Marshall ladder of rights to the rise of 'property management' politics, we reveal the three ways the state steals your power—outsourcing to unelected bodies, turning public issues into consumer choices, and blaming globalization. But it's not all doom: we explore radical experiments like participatory budgeting in Brazil, citizen assemblies in Canada, and digital platforms for survivors. Finally, we confront the ecological debt and ask: is citizenship becoming a subscription service? Watch to understand the forces shaping your silence and how to reclaim your voice.
