You Are a Cultural Creature: The Shocking Truth About How Culture Shapes Your Reality

Moritz Lazarus, Ernst Cassirer, Georg Simmel

Are you the creator of your own world, or just a product of it? This video dives into the groundbreaking philosophy of culture as a 'second nature' (natura altera), revealing how humans are both creators and creations of their cultural environment. Drawing from the works of Moritz Lazarus, Ernst Cassirer, and Georg Simmel, we explore how symbols, social interactions, and even time itself are constructed by us—yet often feel as solid as rock. Discover the three key perspectives: how we perceive through symbols, how our identities are formed in social circles, and the dangerous tension between creativity and alienation (Verdinglichung). By the end, you'll understand why culture isn't just about art or traditions—it's the invisible framework that defines your every thought and action. This is a must-watch for anyone who wants to break free from the 'obvious' and see the world as it truly is: a human-made reality that can be reshaped.
