To enhance their sons' competitiveness in the marriage market, parents tend to take up high-risk, high-income jobs. Such pressure has led employers to cut safety investments (e.g., work-related injury insurance and safety committees), which has significantly raised the rates of work-related injury-induced disability and accidental mortality among the parental generation, particularly men.
