Reality Is Lying To You: The Mind-Bending Preternatural

The Preternatural

Celina Jeffery

Slide 1 You think nature is just trees, calm hikes, and predictable science. You believe humanity has mapped every inch of existence. You are completely wrong. There is a massive blind spot right between everyday logic and impossible magic. It is called the preternatural. Slide 2 A dying leaf does not just turn brown and fade. Before it dies, it violently screams in raw bursts of light. Electromagnetic photography captures an invisible energy discharge your eyes cannot process. Nature is radiating wild power in the dark, and you walk right past it deaf and blind. Slide 3 We demand that our spirituality feels pure, ancient, and expensive. Yet the most sacred pigment in history came from the urine of malnourished cows. Wrap an altar in cheap yellow plastic and play a single audio tone from a boombox. Suddenly your holy feelings are triggered by synthetic vinyl and hardware store tape. Wonder is not a divine miracle. It is a cognitive hack. Slide 4 A church ceiling drops a puff of silent smoke in the rhythm of a dead composer's masterpiece. No choir is singing. No orchestra is playing. Yet your auditory cortex hallucinates the booming sound simply by watching the smoke. You are not just watching art. Your skull is being mechanically hijacked. Slide 5 GPS killed the ocean's terrifying mystery. We replaced sea monsters with tracking chips and shipping lanes. Flip a lighthouse upside down inside a murky chemical tank and your balance shatters. The universal symbol of human safety is submerged in an alien abyss. Total control does not bring peace. It brings an empty, hollow melancholy. Slide 6 You hoard souvenirs because you think you can freeze time. Take crab claws, torn syllables of shredded books, and rusty clock gears. Lock them into sterile glass test tubes and hook them up to tiny clicking motors. The second your brain fails to categorize the mess, your illusion of dominion collapses. Slide 7 Blast an ancient room with searing red light and sweeping sound frequencies. Your optic nerve saturates. Your rational thinking shuts down. The boundaries between sight and sound dissolve into pure vulnerability. You cannot hear color, but sensory overload will force you to surrender. Slide 8 Step into a towering sugarcane labyrinth where your phone has zero signal. There are no dead ends and no choices to make. You cannot outsmart the path. Your brain panics because you can no longer optimize your day. Getting lost is the only way to realize you are not the center of the earth. Slide 9 Flip a massive photograph of the Arctic upside down. Suddenly the frozen earth is a crushing ceiling over your head, and the black sky is a bottomless pit beneath your feet. Your inner ear spins into genuine vertigo. Gravity tethered your ego, but the universe does not care which way is up. Slide 10 Take a sealed black film canister. Drill a microscopic pinhole. Instead of a boring white dot, raw light diffracts into a blinding, stellar explosion. We drown in neon screens, yet we are completely blind to the terrifying power of raw light. Slide 11 Erase the paintings from an art museum and what remains? Crowds pacing, squinting, judging, and whispering at absolutely blank walls. Art appreciation is often just a performance to flatter your own ego. Slide 12 Cities are massive machines built to convince you that reality is your personal toolbox. You see a tree as shade while waiting for the bus, not an autonomous organism. Even environmentalism often reduces nature to future resources for human survival. Enter the deep wilderness at night. Hear a branch snap. Instantly you are no longer the CEO of reality. You are just soft meat negotiating with weather, gravity, and predators. Slide 13 Philosophers proved decades ago that you will never know what it feels like to be a bat. You are locked inside your human hardware. Great art strips away utility and lets objects live their own secret lives. Light, smoke, leaves, plastic, and stone do not need your permission to exist. Slide 14 The preternatural is not a cheap ghost story. It is the humbling realization that objects possess an impenetrable existence outside your awareness. You are just a noisy guest in a house you never built. Stop looking for yourself in the mirror of the world. The universe is staring right back, and it does not care about your reflection.
